School Meals

School meals are cooked fresh every day in our newly built onsite kitchen by our lovely cooks, Mrs Fiona Blackmore and Mrs Becky Haswell. Children can choose from a hot meal, jacket potato or sandwich option. Children are able to select their choice each morning as the register is taken. There is a menu produced at the start of each term which operates on a three weekly cycle. In the summer half term there is the option of a 'grab bag' to the lunch options. This will consist of a cheese, tuna or ham sandwich, a piece of baking i.e. flapjack, sultanas and raisins and veg sticks. Children will be asked in the morning whether they would like a main option, jacket potato or a sandwich option (in the summer term a grab bag).

Children are welcome to bring a packed lunch from home if they prefer. We ask that children do not have nuts in their packed lunches as we have children in school with nut allergies. Please comply with this request so we can keep our children safe. We hold Healthy Schools status and encourage children to make healthy food choices. Can we please request that grapes/olives etc are cut in half lengthways.

Children from Nursery and Reception will eat their lunch together in the school dining hall with children from Class 2 and 3 from 11:45 - 12:15. Children from Class 4 and 5 will eat their lunch from 12:15 - 12:45pm.

Dinner Money

We have been very fortunate that the government has provided a subsidy grant for Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) for many years. This amount has stayed the same each year and there has been no indication that this is going to increase. The cost of providing a school meal has gone up significantly over the past few years and the school has been able to subsidise the difference.

The amount received per meal from the government is £2.30 and the amount it costs to produce a meal is £2.50. This cost has been significantly reduced now we have our own kitchen as previously we were charged dining room overheads. The quality of the meals is now vastly improved with no transport time but unfortunately the school is unable to continue with this and therefore we are required to pass on the difference of 20p/meal to parents.

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children are entitled to a universal free school dinner and will be charged 20p per meal which will be charged to your ParentPay account. For children in Years 3 - 6 the meals are charged at £2.50 a day and these are charged through ParentPay.

Nursery children are charged £1.70 for a school dinner.

If you in receipt of certain benefits you may be entitled to assistance with free school meals. Please contact the school office or complete the application form attached and email to
