DT Autumn Term

In DT this half term we have learnt about mechanisms and how to make a simple machine using linkages and levers with card and split pins. Using our new knowledge, we have made our own ‘Moving Monsters’ (but with a Christmas twist, of course!) Part of our journey in this project has involved exploring how best to construct this machine with our materials: thick pieces of card, thin, narrow, wide, short or long. We discovered that the card needed to be thick enough to be sturdy but that if the pieces were too wide and short, the movement was limited; if they were too long they were floppy and if they were too narrow they were too fragile. We decided on an optimum thickness and length ready to make our final product.
