Physical Education (P.E.)

At  Sharow CE School, we want every child to flourish through positive, high quality PE experiences. Our approach focuses on developing agility, balance, coordination, healthy competition and cooperative learning.

We believe PE plays a vital role in helping children grow physically, emotionally and socially. Our aim is to provide inspiring lessons that build confidence, fitness and important life skills. Children learn how to stay safe and healthy, work as part of a team, show fairness and develop values that will stay with them for life. Swimming is also an important part of our offer so children learn this essential life skill.

Children take part in a broad range of activities including games, dance, gymnastics, outdoor adventure and swimming (Years 3 and 4).

Our curriculum is based on the REAL PE programme, which develops core skills such as agility, balance and coordination. This approach allows every child to learn at their own level and experience success.

EYFS:Children learn through active play and one weekly PE session focused on fundamental movement skills, supported by stories, songs and games.

KS1:Children build on these core skills and begin to explore simple tactics, team games and early competition in fun, supportive ways.

KS2:Children apply skills more confidently, learn to evaluate their own progress and take part in a wider range of competitive opportunities. Swimming is provided in Years 3 and 4.

We also enrich PE through sports workshops, sports week activities and participation in local festivals and competitions. Year 6 Sports Leaders help run activities and act as role models for younger pupils.

Our goal is for every child to enjoy being active and to understand the importance of health and fitness. Through engaging lessons and wider opportunities, children develop confidence, resilience and a love of sport. Many go on to take part in competitive events at school and beyond, using the skills and values gained through PE to lead active, healthy lives.
