Prehistoric Painting

As part of our learning in art, we have been exploring prehistoric painting and learning about the processes involved in creating artwork in the style of early cave artists. We discovered how prehistoric people made their own paints using natural colour pigments from materials such as petals, herbs and spices. Using charcoal, we recreated the bold marks and drawings found in ancient caves and discussed the differences between prehistoric paints and the modern paints we use today. We carefully selected equipment and experimented with a range of colours and textures to recreate authentic prehistoric effects. As part of our learning, we successfully created both positive and negative handprints in a variety of colours, just like those found in prehistoric cave art. We were proud to showcase our creativity while gaining a deeper understanding of how art was made thousands of years ago.
