St John’s Church Sharow

Our Strong Links with St John’s Church

“We promise to flourish together.”

Our Christian ethos is at the heart of everything we do at Sharow School, and our close relationship with St John the Evangelist Church enriches school life in many ways.

Members of the church lead Collective Worship each week, and pupils lead services in church each term, helping to develop spiritual, social, and cultural awareness through Christian teachings. These experiences enrich our school life and strengthen the bond between school, church, and community.

School performances are also held in the church, creating a sense of belonging and shared community. For our children and the wider community, St John’s is truly “our church.”

The church of St John the Evangelist lies at the heart of the village of Sharow. The mission of the church is to be a centre for Christian worship, witness, teaching, and pastoral care for everyone. It serves Sharow and the surrounding villages of Copt Hewick, Marton le Moor, Hutton Conyers, and Bridge Hewick.

St John’s is part of the Cathedral parish within the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds in the Church of England. As a community of Christians seeking to follow Jesus, the church provides opportunities to explore faith and its meaning in today’s world. Worship takes place on Sundays and throughout the week, and the church is actively involved in village life, offering baptisms, weddings, funerals, and hosting community activities.
