The Big STEM Ideas – A Brilliant Start!

Our new topic, The Big STEM Ideas, is off to a fantastic start, and we have certainly been busy in EYFS this week! The children have been exploring bridge building, showing incredible curiosity, creativity and determination.

We challenged the children to design and build bridges that were the tallest, longest, and strongest, encouraging them to think carefully about structure and materials. Once completed, we tested our bridges using toy cars to see how well they worked — a great opportunity to make predictions, test ideas and talk about what happened.

The children also took on the challenge of building a bridge over a ‘river’, problem-solving together to help the cars cross safely without falling in. There was lots of teamwork, discussion and perseverance as they refined their designs.

We were especially lucky to have some help from the Year 6 boys, which created a wonderful opportunity for collaboration across the school. The children loved working together, sharing ideas, and learning from one another.
