Year 3 and 4 Visit to the Royal Armouries, Leeds

Year 3 and 4 Visit to the Royal Armouries, Leeds

Earlier this term, Year 3 and 4 enjoyed a fascinating trip to the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds! 🏰

The children explored a wide variety of armour from different historical periods, learning how it was used in battle and how it changed over time. They were especially interested in comparing the armour of different cultures and time periods.

One of the highlights of the day was watching a dramatic reconstruction of a small historical battle. The focus wasn’t just on the fighting, but also on the impact the conflict had on the local villagers. This gave the children a deeper understanding of how war affected everyday life in the past.

After the reconstruction, the children had the chance to take part in a question and answer session with one of the actors. They asked thoughtful questions and learned even more about life during the time of the battle, the roles people played, and how historical events are brought to life through performance.

We also explored Roman armour and discussed how it was designed to help soldiers move efficiently while staying protected in battle. The children were fascinated by how advanced Roman military equipment was for its time.

It was a brilliant day full of hands-on learning and historical discovery. The children returned to school inspired and eager to learn more!
