Saltburn
Tuesday brought most of the school to the beautiful seaside town of Saltburn, not just for a day of fresh air and fun—but for a day of learning in the great outdoors! Our EYFS children explored the seaside through the lens of discovery. They learned about different types of transport, looked at maps, and talked about what they could see at the seaside—from waves and sand to boats and birds.
Year 1/2 focused on geography, identifying human and natural features around Saltburn. With clipboards in hand, they conducted a tally survey, counting how many shops, benches, and cafés they could spot along the promenade.
Meanwhile, Year 5/6 took on an environmental mission. They collected data on how much rubbish they could find along the beach and promenade, linking their findings to their current topic: “Why are oceans important and how can we protect them?” Their observations sparked thoughtful conversations about pollution, conservation, and the role we all play in caring for our planet.
And of course, no trip to the seaside would be complete without a splash—we also managed a paddle in the sea, which brought squeals of delight and sandy toes all around! It was a day full of sunshine, sea breeze, and meaningful learning, with each year group gaining new insights from their surroundings. A perfect blend of education and exploration.
