National Railway Museum

Our EYFS children recently enjoyed a fantastic school trip to the National Railway Museum, where a day full of curiosity, exploration and hands-on learning took place.

Throughout the visit, the children took part in an exciting challenge to find specific trains around the museum. They worked brilliantly in small groups, carefully observing details and sharing ideas as they discovered different types of trains. The children showed great enthusiasm as they learned new facts, such as how trains have changed over time, what they were used for, and how they were powered.

We also took part in a range of interactive activities, allowing the children to engage in role play, climb aboard real carriages, and imagine what it might have been like to travel by train in the past. This supported their understanding of the world, encouraged communication and language development, and inspired imaginative play.

The visit provided wonderful opportunities to develop key EYFS skills. The children practised teamwork, problem-solving and listening skills, while also building confidence in a new environment. They asked thoughtful questions and made links to their learning back in the classroom.

It truly was a memorable day, and the children represented the school beautifully. We are very proud of their curiosity, behaviour and engagement throughout the trip. We look forward to building on this learning back at school through further activities linked to transport, journeys and how things work.
